OtherPix: 10: Prey

This photograph (made in Finland in July 2010) is perhaps even more surprising than the two preceding scenes. Here a male and a female Yellow-Winged Darter (Sympetrum flaveolum) have both allowed themselves to get caught in one and the same web. What is remarkable in this scene is that - whichever of the two dragonflies got trapped last - he or she didn't manage to avoid the web despite the presence of the earlier victim in that same web. Romantic notions à la Romeo and Juliette are of course neither here nor there, surely.
